Dr Wilson

Synopsis

This is a course about the criminal justice system -- specifically, it's players, practices and behaviors. The course is taught from the inside perspective of a criminal defense attorney and is multidisciplinary. It fuses philosophy, politics, law and participant experience into one dynamic and revealing aspect. Students learn about the role of the criminal trial, the jury, pretrial and trial process, evidence, sentencing and appeals; and they also learn about strategic participant behavior, institutional idealism and failings, famous trials and abuses, lawyering, criminal defense strategies, criminal law, elements of offenses, mental states, constitutional procedural mandates, trial judging, and ethics.
