Synopsis

This course examines important concepts in political theory as they concern American political thought. Particular attention is paid to the philosophy of government, both as to the creation of institutions and as well the logics of how they work (process policy). We will also cover contemporary and pressing problems in American political mind. Topics will include philosophy of democracy, representation, institutional design, the rule of law, interest-group pluralism, economic theory, justice & opportunity, political ideology, “following science” (intellectual history) and the contemporary problem of information bubbles and adversarial media.
